54. What was the message of the golden plate worn on the high priest’s forehead?

Exodus 28:31-43

THE PRIESTS’ GARMENTS

“And you shall make the robe of the ephod all of blue.

There shall be an opening at its top in the center [for the head], with a binding of woven work around the opening, like the opening in a coat of armor, so that it will not tear or fray.

You shall make pomegranates of blue, purple, and scarlet fabric all around its hem, with gold bells between them;

a golden bell and a pomegranate, a golden bell and a pomegranate, all around the [bottom] hem of the robe.

Aaron shall wear the robe when he ministers, and its sound shall be heard when he goes [alone] into the Holy Place before the LORD, and when he comes out, so that he will not die there.

“You shall also make a plate of pure gold and engrave on it, like the engravings of a signet, ‘Holy to the LORD.’ [Exo_39:30]

You shall fasten it on the front of the turban with a blue cord.

It shall be on Aaron’s forehead, and Aaron shall take away the guilt from the holy things which the sons of Israel dedicate, with regard to all their holy gifts. It shall always be on his forehead, so that they may be accepted before the LORD. [Luk_24:44; Heb_8:1-2]

“You shall weave the tunic of checkered work of fine linen, and make a turban of fine linen. You shall make a sash, the work of an embroiderer.

“For Aaron’s sons you shall make tunics and sashes and [ornamental] caps, for glory and honor and beauty.

You shall put the various articles of clothing on Aaron your brother and on his sons with him, and shall anoint them and ordain and sanctify them, so that they may serve Me as priests.

You shall make for them [white] linen undergarments to cover their bare flesh, reaching from the waist to the thighs.

The various articles of clothing shall be on Aaron and on his sons when they enter the Tent of Meeting, or when they approach the altar [of incense] to minister in the Holy Place, so that they do not incur guilt and die. It shall be a statute forever to Aaron and to his descendants after him.

AARON’S HOLY GARMENTS

The robe was worn under the ephod. It was of blue, the color of heaven, of deep lakes, of the gentian and the forget-me-not. It was of one piece. See Joh_19:23. It ended in a fringe, in which bells and pomegranates alternated. We are as the skirts of his garments, and the holy oil will reach us there, so the psalmist says. See Psa_133:2. We may receive the unction of the holy Christ. The Spirit so richly given to Him may anoint even us, and it will reveal itself in the fruit of the pomegranate and the sweetness of the golden bell. Aaron’s head plate bore an inscription, which the prophet tells us should be written also on our commonest duties and most prosaic service. See Zec_14:20-21. For ordinary priests the clothing was very simple. Pure white linen! Such is the garb which befits us all! Rev_19:8.

New Covenant Israelite! "And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wert grafted in among them, and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree;  Boast not against the branches. But if thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee."  Rom 11:17 -18

    1. You are most welcome. The Holy Spirit is the one that teaches you, I am but a messenger of the Word. What I bring you is the Sripture, Now you must pray that the Holy Spirit with guide you in the Truth of the meaning of the Word I bring you.
      Hearing and Doing the Word

      Jas 1:19  Understand this, my beloved brothers and sisters. Let everyone be quick to hear [be a careful, thoughtful listener], slow to speak [a speaker of carefully chosen words and], slow to anger [patient, reflective, forgiving];
      Jas 1:20  for the [resentful, deep-seated] anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God [that standard of behavior which He requires from us].
      Jas 1:21  So get rid of all uncleanness and all that remains of wickedness, and with a humble spirit receive the word [of God] which is implanted [actually rooted in your heart], which is able to save your souls.
      Jas 1:22  But prove yourselves doers of the word [actively and continually obeying God’s precepts], and not merely listeners [who hear the word but fail to internalize its meaning], deluding yourselves [by unsound reasoning contrary to the truth].
      Jas 1:23  For if anyone only listens to the word without obeying it, he is like a man who looks very carefully at his natural face in a mirror;
      Jas 1:24  for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he immediately forgets what he looked like.
      Jas 1:25  But he who looks carefully into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and faithfully abides by it, not having become a [careless] listener who forgets but an active doer [who obeys], he will be blessed and favored by God in what he does [in his life of obedience].
      Jas 1:26  If anyone thinks himself to be religious [scrupulously observant of the rituals of his faith], and does not control his tongue but deludes his own heart, this person’s religion is worthless (futile, barren).
      Jas 1:27  Pure and unblemished religion [as it is expressed in outward acts] in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit and look after the fatherless and the widows in their distress, and to keep oneself uncontaminated by the [secular] world.
