THE KINGDOM PROMISED TO HIS SERVANT
The Kingdom Promised To His Servant. Jeroboam, Solomon’s servant, the son of Nebat, an Ephrathite of Zeredah whose mother’s name was Zeruah, a widow, also rebelled against the king.
THE LORD RAISES ADVERSARIES
The Lord Raises Adversaries. Then the LORD stirred up an adversary against Solomon, Hadad the Edomite; he was of royal descent in Edom.
SOLOMON TURNS FROM THE LORD
Solomon Turns from the Lord. Now king Solomon [defiantly] loved many foreign women along with the daughter of Pharaoh: Moabite, Ammonite, Edomite, Sidonian, and Hittite women, from the very nations of whom the LORD said to the Israelites, “You shall not associate with them, nor shall they associate with you, for the result will be that they will turn away your hearts to follow their gods.” Yet Solomon clung to these in love.
SOLOMON’S GREAT WEALTH
Solomon’s Great Wealth. Now the weight of the gold that came to Solomon in one [particular] year was six hundred and sixty-six talents of gold, besides the taxes from the traders and from the wares of the merchants, and [the tribute money] from all the kings of the Arabs (Bedouins) and the governors of the country.
