THE ALLOTMENT FOR JUDAH

The Allotment for Judah. Now the lot (allotment) for the tribe of the sons of Judah according to their families reached [southward to] the border of Edom, southward to the wilderness of Zin at its most southern part.
Their southern border was from the lower end of the Salt (Dead) Sea, from the bay that turns southward.

THE INHERITANCE WEST OF THE JORDAN

The Inheritance West of the Jordan. Now these are the territories which the tribes of Israel inherited in the land of Canaan, which Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the son of Nun, and the heads of the households of the tribes of Israel apportioned to them as an inheritance,
Jos 14:2 by the lot of their inheritance, as the LORD had commanded through Moses, for the nine tribes and the half-tribe.

THE INHERITANCE EAST OF THE JORDAN

The Inheritance East of the Jordan. With the other half-tribe [of Manasseh], the Reubenites and the Gadites received their inheritance which Moses gave them beyond the Jordan eastward, just as Moses the servant of the LORD gave to them;

MUCH LAND YET TO BE POSSESSED

Much land yet to be possessed. So Joshua took the whole land [of Canaan], according to all that the LORD had spoken to Moses, and Joshua gave it as an inheritance to Israel according to their divisions by their tribes. So the land had rest from war.

CONQUEST OF SOUTHERN CANAAN

Conquest of Southern Canaan. So Joshua struck all the land, the hill country, the Negev (South country) and the lowland and the slopes [that descend to the Dead Sea] and all their kings. He left no survivor, but he utterly destroyed all who breathed, just as the LORD, the God of Israel, had commanded.

FIVE AMORITE KINGS EXUCUTED

Five Amorite Kings Executed. Then afterward Joshua struck them [with his sword] and put them to death, and he hung them on five trees; and they hung on the trees until evening.

THE SUN STAND STILL

STILL

The Sun Stands Still. So the sun stood still, and the moon stopped, Until the nation [of Israel] took vengeance upon their enemies. Is it not written in the Book of Jashar? So the sun stood still in the middle of the sky and was in no hurry to go down for about a whole day.

GIBEONITES HEWERS OF WOOD AND DRAWERS OF WATER

Hewers of wood and drawers of water. Joshua called the [Hivite] men and said, “Why did you deceive us, saying, ‘We live very far away from you,’ when [in fact] you live among us?
Now therefore, you are cursed, and you shall always be slaves, both cutters and gatherers of firewood and water carriers for the house of my God.”

THE GIBEONITE DECEPTION

The Gibeonite Deception. But when the people of Gibeon [the Hivites] heard what Joshua had done to Jericho and Ai,
they too acted craftily and cunningly, and set out and took along provisions, but took worn-out sacks on their donkeys, and wineskins (leather bottles) that were worn out and split open and patched together,
and worn-out and patched sandals on their feet, and worn-out clothes; and all their supply of food was dry and had turned to crumbs.

JOSHUA RENEWS THE COVENANT

Joshua Renews the Covenant. And there, in the presence of the sons of Israel, Joshua wrote on the stones a copy of the Law of Moses which Moses had written.
