Jacob Sent Away From Home. So Isaac called Jacob and blessed him and charged him, and said to him, “You shall not marry one of the women of Canaan.

JACOB SENT TO LABAN
So Isaac called Jacob and blessed him and charged him, and said to him, “You shall not marry one of the women of Canaan.
Arise, go to Paddan-aram, to the house of Bethuel your mother’s father; and take from there as a wife for yourself one of the daughters of Laban your mother’s brother.
May God Almighty bless you and make you fruitful and multiply you, so that you may become a [great] company of peoples.
May He also give the blessing of Abraham to you and your descendants with you, that you may inherit the [promised] land of your sojournings, which He gave to Abraham.”
Then Isaac sent Jacob away, and he went to Paddan-aram, to Laban, son of Bethuel the Aramean, the brother of Rebekah, the mother of Jacob and Esau.
Esau Marries an Ishmaelite
Now Esau noticed that Isaac had blessed Jacob and sent him to Paddan-aram to take a wife for himself from there, and that as he blessed him he gave him a prohibition, saying, “You shall not take a wife from the daughters of Canaan,”
and that Jacob obeyed his father and his mother and had gone to Paddan-aram.
So Esau realized that [his two wives] the daughters of Canaan displeased Isaac his father;
and [to appease his parents] Esau went to [the family of] Ishmael and took as his wife, in addition to the wives he [already] had, Mahalath the daughter of Ishmael, Abraham’s son, the sister of Nebaioth [Ishmael’s firstborn son].

JACOB SENT AWAY FROM HOME
Esau deferred the execution of his murderous purpose, because of the near approach, as he supposed, of his father’s death. But Isaac lived for forty years after this. His secret purpose, however, became known to Rebekah. See Pro_29:11. The ostensible reason for Jacob’s expatriation which Rebekah gave her husband was not the real one. He was sent to Haran, not primarily for a wife, but to escape his brother. Does not this constant duplicity explain the reason of Rebekah’s heart-weariness? It seems probable that she never saw her favorite son again. The benediction already pronounced on Jacob was repeated with greater amplitude and tenderness as he left his father’s tent. Sad as he was in the inevitable wrench, the star of hope shone in the sky, beckoning him onward. It was necessary that he should be taken from under his mother’s influence into that greater world, where, through pain and disappointment, he should become a prince with God. Often our nest is broken up that we may learn to fly.

27:46 However, to explain Jacob’s departure to Isaac, she said she was afraid Jacob might marry a Hittite, as Esau had done. Jacob expected to return soon, but it was not to be for more than twenty years. His father would still be living, but his mother would have passed on.
2. Jacob’s Flight to Haran (Chap. 28)
28:1-9 Isaac called Jacob and blessed him, and sent him to Paddan Aram, a district of Mesopotamia, so that he would find a wife among his mother’s people rather than among the Canaanites. This inspired Esau to try to regain his father’s blessing by marrying a daughter of Ishmael. It was a case of doing evil (multiplying wives) that good might come.
