DAVID’S LAMENT FOR SAUL AND JONATHAN

David’s Lament for Saul and Jonathan. Then David sang this dirge (funeral song) over Saul and his son Jonathan,
and he told them to teach the sons of Judah, the song of the bow. Behold, it is written in the Book of Jashar:
“Your glory and splendor, O Israel, is slain upon your high places! How the mighty have fallen!

THE PHILISTINES REJECT DAVID

The Philistines Reject David. Then Achish called David and said to him, “As the LORD lives, you have been upright (righteous), and your behavior in the army is pleasing in my sight. For from the day you came to me to this day I have found no evil in you. Nevertheless, the [Philistine] lords do not approve of you.
1Sa 29:7 So return now and go in peace [to your place], so that you do not displease the Philistine lords.”

DAVID FLEES TO THE PHILISTINES

David Flees to the Philistines. But David said in his heart, “Now I will die one day by the hand of Saul. There is nothing better for me than to escape to the land of the Philistines. Then Saul will give up searching for me inside the borders of Israel, and I will escape from his hand [once and for all].”
