THE HELPERS OF THE KING
The Helpers Of The King. After they left, Jonathan and Ahimaaz came up out of the well and went and informed King David, and said to David, “Arise and cross over the Jordan River quickly, for Ahithophel has advised [an attack] against you.”

The Friends Of The Fleeing King. Now Zadok also came, and all the Levites with him carrying the ark of the covenant of God. And they set down the ark of God, and Abiathar [the priest] came up [and officiated] until all the people had finished passing from the city.
DAVID’S KINDNESS TO MEPHIBOSHETH
David’s Kindness to Mephibosheth. David said to him, “Do not be afraid, for I will certainly show you kindness for the sake of your father Jonathan, and will restore to you all the land of your grandfather Saul; and you shall always eat at my table.”
NOTHER TREACHEROUS DEED AND ITS PENALTY ISH-BOSHETH MURDERED
Another Treacherous Deed And Its Penalty Ish-Bosheth Murdered. Now when they entered the house he was lying on his bed in his bedroom. They [not only] struck and killed him, [but] they also beheaded him. Then they took his head and traveled all night by way of the Arabah.
DAVID’S LAMENT FOR SAUL AND JONATHAN
David’s Lament for Saul and Jonathan. Then David sang this dirge (funeral song) over Saul and his son Jonathan,
and he told them to teach the sons of Judah, the song of the bow. Behold, it is written in the Book of Jashar:
“Your glory and splendor, O Israel, is slain upon your high places! How the mighty have fallen!
A RELENTLESS PURSUIT FOILED
A Relentless Pursuit Foiled. But a messenger came to Saul, saying, “Hurry and come, because the Philistines have attacked the land.” So Saul returned from pursuing David and went to meet the Philistines; therefore they called that place the Rock of Escape.
THE SIGN OF THE ARROW
The Sign Of The Arrow. When the boy came to the place where Jonathan had shot the arrow, Jonathan called to him, “Is the arrow not beyond you?”
JONATHAN A FRIEND AT COURT
Jonathan A Friend At Court. Jonathan made David vow again because of his love for him, for Jonathan loved him as himself.
DAVID AND JONATHAN’S FRIENDSHIP
David and Jonathan’s Friendship. When David had finished speaking to Saul, the soul of Jonathan was bonded to the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as himself.
