THE COMMANDER OF THE LORD’S ARMY
The Commander of the Lord’s Army. The captain of the LORD’S army said to Joshua, “Remove your sandals from your feet, because the place where you are standing is holy (set apart to the LORD).” And Joshua did so.
THE NEW GENERATION CURCUMCISED
The New Generation Circumcised. At that time the LORD said to Joshua, “Make for yourself flint knives and circumcise the [new generation of the] sons of Israel as [was done] before.”
TWELVE MEMORIAL STONES FROM THE JORDAN
“Take for yourselves the twelve men [chosen] from among the people, one man from each tribe,
and command them, ‘Pick up for yourselves twelve stones [one each] from here out of the midst of the Jordan, from the place where the priests’ feet are standing firm; carry them over with you and lay them down at the place where you will spend the night tonight.'”
ISRAEL CROSSES THE JORDAN
Israel Crosses the Jordan. Joshua got up early in the morning; then he and all the children of Israel set out from Shittim and came to the Jordan, and they spent the night there before they crossed [the river].
THE ESCAPE AND THE REPORT OF THE SPIES
The escape and report of the spies. Then she let them down by a rope through the window, for her house was built into the city wall, so that she was living on the wall.
A HEATHEN WOMEN’S ACT OF FAITH
A heathen woman’s act of faith. And now, please swear [an oath] to me by the LORD, since I have shown you kindness, that you also will show kindness to my father’s household (family), and give me a pledge of truth and faithfulness,
and spare my father and my mother and my brothers and my sisters, along with everyone who belongs to them, and let us all live.”
PROVISIONED AND UNITED FOR CONQUEST
Provisioned and united for conquest. “Go throughout the camp and command the people, saying, ‘Prepare your provisions, for within three days you are to cross this [river] Jordan, to go in to take possession of the land which the LORD your God is giving you to possess [as an inheritance].
GOD COMMISIONS JOSHUA
God Commissions Joshua. “Moses My servant is dead; now therefore arise [to take his place], cross over this Jordan, you and all this people, into the land which I am giving to them, to the sons of Israel

THE GREAT LEADER’S EXODUS
The great leader’s exodus. Then the LORD said to him, “This is the land which I swore to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, saying, ‘I will give it to your descendants.’ I have let you see it with your eyes, but you shall not go over there.”
So Moses the servant of the LORD died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of the LORD.
