The Coming of the Son of Man

“Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:
And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.”

The Lesson of the Fig Tree

“Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye
know that summer is nigh:
So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.
Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.
Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.”

No One Knows That Day and Hour

“But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.
But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
As in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,
And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.”

Frederick Brotherton Meyer, a contemporary and friend of D. L. Moody and A. C. Dixon, was a Baptist pastor and evangelist in England involved in ministry and inner city mission work on both sides of the Atlantic presents it to us this way regarding Matthew 24:29-39

WORDS THAT MUST BE FULFILLED

Perhaps it is wisest, between Mat_24:28-29, to interpolate the Christian centuries during which the gospel is being preached to the Gentiles, according to Rom_11:25, (but that whole chapter should be considered). Just as one who looks across a mountainous country may count the successive ranks of sierras or ranges, but does not record the valleys that lie between, so our Lord, who speaks as the last of the Hebrew prophets, does not stop to notice the story of the Church, but confines Himself to the events which are specially Hebrew.
Probably the present age will be ushered out by scenes not unlike those of the preceding one; and immediately afterward the Lord will set up His reign, and there shall be a new heaven and a new earth. The Advent will be sudden, Mat_24:36; and will find men unprepared, Mat_24:38. The Jewish people will exist as a people till then, Mat_24:34.

Let us see how Dr. Luke present this parable by Jesus ;

Luke 21:29-33

The Lesson of the Fig Tree

And he spake to them a parable;

“Behold the fig tree, and all the trees;
When they now shoot forth, ye see and know of your own selves that summer is now nigh at hand.
Likewise ye, when ye see these things come to pass, know ye that the kingdom of God is nigh at hand.
Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, till all be fulfilled.
Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.”

Note:
By referring to “all the trees” by Luke it is clear to me that Jesus was referring to a time period rather than a people , and that time period is the time of His return to Earth to fetch His people.
Any references that the Fig Tree refers to Israel or Judah (Jews) are refuted by Luke 21:29. It is not a contradiction to Matthew 24:32 or Mark 13:28 but a confirmation that Jesus meant a time period. And that time period refers to the time just before His second coming to fetch His people before he is going to destroy the unfaithful remainder and cleanse the world.
Paul makes it clear in Romans 11:11-24 that Israel is referred to as an Olive tree all believers has to be grafted into, including Israel and Judah of old who accepts Jesus and the Gospel of Salvation by Grace. The salvation of Israel is clearly told to us in Romans 11:25-36. Pay attention to Romans 11: 31 “Even so have these also now not believed, that through your mercy they also may obtain mercy.”
